That moose is big and gorgeous but what I really want to know is WHY ARE YOU ACTIVELY LOOKING FOR BEARS?

Because I love them! And they are waking up right now. And I live next to a 4000 acre wooded park at the base of the Chugach range where about 35 black bears, and 10 brown bears live. 🐻 Also, they walk through my yard a lot May-October.

That sounds frightening. But I get it, I guess. 🤷🏾‍♀️

I'm usually in my car or house. We've been in Alaska for 3 years. I see between 4 and 8 bears each summer. I don't hike here. Hoping to get over that fear but I did just get chased by a moose a few weeks ago. I got lucky. They will stomp you hard. They are so large & heavy with very sharp hooves.

Alaska summers are worth the occasional wildlife encounters. It is the most beautiful place I've ever been. I "hated" cold and snow before coming here. That has changed. It's very different, but it's amazing.
