If someone tells you they don't have a relationship with their family, shut the fuck up with the "You should reconcile with them" or "Family are the most important people in your life, you should mend fences", etc. Just shut the fuck up with that shit. You don't know that person's family history.

Exactly. For some of us, family members were our first abusers. Not necessarily physically, but emotionally and psychologically in a narcissistic family dynamic where everything looked great to the outside world, but very, very different in private.

When my counselor mentioned that she thought my mom was a narcissist, I thought - That explains a lot.

My mom was too. I finally came to that conclusion when she was in her last weeks in and out of hospitals and nursing homes, dementia was taking hold. Up to that point, I couldn't tell which parent was the narcissist, and which the enabler. I knew my brother was, I the scapegoat of the family.

Yes, I hear you on this. If I'd known about NPD years before, it wouldn't have changed the family members, but I would've been kinder to myself and my decisions, rather than always trying to help repair the(ir) damage.
Finally free - zero regrets.
Cheers to us!

Same! Until mango mussolini came on the scene, I did not see them for what they are. Now I can't unsee it.
