In my college course "the Sociology of Protest Movements" I compared the anti-abortion & Prohibition movements: social conservatives who claimed removing a specific ill would automatically improve society. The Prohibition movement collapsed when banning alcohol wasn't a panacea. Same thing now?

Abortion and reproductive health are not negotiable. The GOP has been for decades trying to nibble around the edges until they could make people not realize the right to abortion would be gone. However, they would have gotten away with it if no for the Dobbs decision.

Trauma Epidemic
A
In response to William Tulloch.
That's a reasonable analogy, though I think it's less about the viability of the 'thing' than about the psychology of the people pushing for it.

There's an endless supply of target issues. If not one, then another. The root is the trauma experiences that unconsciously--primarily--motivate them.
