A second strong magnitude 4.0 aftershock earthquake has just struck northern New Jersey, with numerous people feeling it across New York City and surrounding areas in New Jersey.

I'm a little worried that these might be preludes to something bigger. I know people in New York and, while the East Coast is not known for major earthquakes like the West Coast is, they have happened there historically. And New York is probably way less prepared to deal with one than a West Coast

city, to say nothing of the fact that a lot of New York is built on soft ground/fill, with a lot of old brick buildings, which basically guarantees mass destruction.
