I Lost White Friends When I Finally Spoke Out
New white friends are "vetted". I am not teaching "Intro to Blackness 101."

"Citizens inherit not just the glory of their nation but its wrongs, too. A truly great country does not ignore or excuse its sins. It confronts them, and then works to make them right."

This is so RL. I had people who thought they were friends. Played Black Music. Stood up for me, in general, but not on issues of race. Then, I realized that he never saw me as a Black Woman only as a woman. Color-Blindness is something I try to bring awareness to. This person was offended.

It's a well worth reading article, by all the people who resist these sorts of articles and movies such as '12 years a slave' and others. We've built a society where too many whites think, 'oh that's just another person going on too much about race.' They might end with, It's 2024 for God sakes. SMH

In 2024, if your essay speaks hard truths, then definitely do NOT read the comments! I’m all for educating but there ain’t enough time for that crowd.

Handy charts. They put racism in perspective... and are likely to make a lot of my fellow clears very defensive 😀

In support of this. I'm a white man, and I've left a lot of friends behind on these issues as well. I grew up in a highly segregated town as well. I left as soon as I could because of that.
The older I get, the more layers of indoctrination I discover and peel off.

I’m feeling the same way. Continually having to “teach” some white folk about racism; latent or blatant is EXHAUSTING.

Great article. Every time I'm tempted to ask a question about something in a spout, I Google first. It isn't y'all's job to teach me. If I can't figure it out, then I ask.

I would ask the ones that you lost, were they really friends or associates with friend benefits?
