What about Robert Downey Jr in Tropic Thunder? Would you prefer if that movie never saw the light of day? Do you believe it caused some irreparable harm to the African American community?

Except the whole point of Downey doing blackface in that film was to highlight how problematic it is when 'actors do whatever they want to'. LOL, so either you didn't actually watch the movie or Ben Stiller proved himself too smart for his audience once again...

I watched that movie 6 times now and the point of his character was not lost on me, I assure you. And that's exactly my point. If that movie came out today, would viewers be able to go 'oh, he's depicting a fictional white guy who goes blackface to artistically show us that it's wrong' or would...

The movie is only 15yrs old. It's not like it came out in the 80s.
America's racial attitudes have not changed. What you're really referring to is the weaponization of social media by bad actors (so to speak) to wage culture wars. That's a different topic entirely.

I take your point. Unfortunately, while, as a whole, "America's racial attitudes have not changed," conservatives' ability to use their bs "Woke" war has succeeded in putting the entire country on edge. It has made it much harder to engage in such nuance conversation. Thx for the talk though 👍

... they just be so outraged that they'll just stop watching the movie upon his first scene and miss the whole message?
