The links are still there. Anyone who has a family member who gave their life in the fight against fascism in WWII knows their name and should at the very least remind the world of them every year on Memorial Day. My mom lost her older brother, Dana Dudley Goodwin, Jr. in March 1945.

The last of the WWII veterans are almost gone, and with them, the links to the last great clash against Fascism and totalitarian rule have become tenuous. So tenuous, that millions do not believe that the worst parts of the world war were even real.

Too many people don't have the familial connection anymore. WWII has gone from the fight against Fascism to the backdrop for "Indiana Jones" movies. The rampant spread of Holocaust denial is a perfect example of how we have not maintained its importance in the places it counts most: schools.
