#Trivia #TVTrivia Could you imagine a world where the East of the Mississippi had the K call signs, and west would have the W call signs. The FCC wanted that at first but flipped it. That's why some stations in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia start with the letter K.

All my local channels in Kentucky have W as the first letter in their call sign. Were tv stations trying to give a shout-out to the Klan East of the Mississippi?

Even the FCC had problems with that, but since Kentucky is east of the Mississippi, then yeah they would start with W. In Pittsburgh they have KDKA-TV, and spun off KDKA AM/FM, and KQV. They were grandfathered in.
