My grandmother used to tell me as a child that Black people are the most beautiful people in the world because we are like a flower garden. We come in every shade and hair texture imaginable.

A good half of the people y'all love to claim during Black History Month could have passed for white but didn't, because being Black ain't just phenotype.

It's lineage, ethnicity, culture.

The one drop rule was dumb. But an unintended good consequence was a diverse and strong community.

My grandmother had eight children of all the shades and colorism was not taught, enacted, or tolerated in our family under her watch.
