We all want choices, but that often backfires or isn't really much of a choice. Even in parliamentary countries with lots of parties it always ends up coming down to a binary of liberal v. conservative. E.g., instead of 7 liberal parties forming a coalition gov. we have 1 big tent Democratic party.

While lurking, I read a Spout in which the author suggested America has more political parties. It seems they don't understand that a multiparty system would benefit the Republicans more.

In response to Professor Kyle.
With ranked-choice voting, a multi-party system wouldn't create a spoiler effect. Anyone in power shoots RCV proposals down, because they know they'll need to work harder to keep their seat if we have more options.
