LinkedIn has been in the process of morphing into something other than professional networking site. Being Twitter alternative is bonkers.

In my experience, admittedly anecdotal, networking is overrated. When I had to scramble for work after the newspaper industry started crumbling, almost everything I got came through a pre-existing network of friends and former colleagues. New contacts intentionally cultivated didn't help much.
