In January, I asked my students to come up with “one word” to motivate them for the coming new year and they thought adding Eric to our door decor would be appropriate. His word is “thrive” and in his avatar he’s sporting 7 leaves.

During February break, he sprouted a fifth leaf and last week on spring vacation week, he was quietly unfurling leaves six and seven. Goal achieved.

He’s been a talking point about growth. It’s slow. It happens all the time in unnoticed ways, but even the smallest changes add up over time. Like learning. Like our choices. Like life.

Like Eric, in order to grow, we all need light, water, a space of our own, and time. He’s already achieved his goal and is just getting started. 🪴 I think we’ll celebrate him with donuts on Friday and check on our own growth, too.
