Florida charging formerly incarcerated.

JUST WTAF.

Florida is charging formerly incarcerated people $50 a day even if they’re no longer in prison. The “pay to stay” fee is based on the length of the original sentence, so even when they're released they must keep paying for a prison bed they’re not using.

Practically guarantees a revolving door. The private prison industry is an American obscenity. Land of the free, my a$$.

This is horrendous. Those on parole or otherwise released from prison have a difficult time finding work. So FL wants to drive them into debt? Recidivism can result from not being able to reintegrate into society and this constant reminder of their status as an ex-felon can’t help.

I'm sure they know this. If most of the prisons in Florida are private, I think we found the motivation for this business.

How much you wanna bet that they can't get back the right to vote until the debt is fully paid off.
