I was a judge of elections from 2007-2011 and 2015-2019. (I won reelection in 2019, but Covid....)

Even before TFG, certain voters were frightening. The Tea Party types.

In my last election, I was told by a voter "It's a good thing we have voter lists so we know who to shoot when the time comes."

Longtime election worker:
“I felt attacked, but then I also felt that if I stepped aside, they win,” she said. “I’m sad that we are at this point where we have to understand better how to prepare and protect ourselves and our citizens and our workers, but I’m glad that we are able to come together.”

Since TFG, it's at least 100x worse.

This is a small county. Poll workers all know each other because few people are willing to work a 16-18 hour day for a measly $120/day (judge) or $100/day (clerks & inspectors).

Threats, interference with poll workers, disruptions are off the charts.

Several of my fellow judges who were elected in 2019 (including me) left after 2020. When most election workers are over 50, Covid was a huge concern.

After 2022, there was a huge exodus as a result of the increasingly hostile interactions with Repubs, primarily TFG supporters.
