Does anyone else feel a strong pull to be in a forest? Every time I pass one, I feel it pulling at me. Especially if a creek or river is near. Now, I just have to get over my fear of the many predators in Alaskan forests and go for it. I see people jogging with earbuds & no bear spray all the time.

I think they are crazy. They are running, which sets off a predators hunting instinct, they can't hear a predator coming, and they have no defense! And yet, people do it every day here... and none of them get mauled. I think I would be much safer than them. And far less nuts.

I live in the 'burbs, so not sure if bear spray is needed or not. I'm old, so ear buds are something I avoid in general, but I really really prefer the natural sounds on a forest/mountain hike to whatever might be on my playlist. Agree on the pull of forests, especially forests on mountains

I can see the Chugach Range from our place. I want to explore them all. I never could in on lifetime but I can at least go to Flattop Mountain or up into a few of them by car and then foot. The problem here, though, is that you never know where a moose or bear will pop up & both can be dangerous.
