Like many of the southeastern Massachusetts people who have Portuguese speaking roots, my family hails from the Azores. Boston has folks from Cape Verde. Other parts of Mass., Brazilians and mainland Portugal.
Regardless of where folks come from, the food will be delicious!

One of the best parts about growing up in an immigrant city is the food. Eating at neighbors’ houses was was like going to different restaurants. Italian and Greek when I was younger, then later, introduced to South American and African cuisines. So much good food to expand your culinary tastes.

I grew up in Fall River - French Canadian, Portuguese, Lebanese, Polish, Italian, Irish (good only for St Patrick's Day), and Vietnamese, later on. My mom's mom was 100% French Canadian, but could cook most any one of those.
Throw in Coney Island hot dogs and you never went hungry!

Our house was that Irish/ English one. Lots of basic meat and root vegetable meals. Our boiled dinners were only popular around St Patrick’s day. ☘️

My dad's side of the family was Irish. None of them could cook! 😁

It was mind blowing when I discovered that you could roast vegetables with spices like turmeric, cumin or even just garlic oil instead of just boiling all the texture and flavor out of them 😂
I actually enjoy eating certain veggies now.
