And I had witnessed many women getting married and having extremely difficult lives as homemakers. They struggled with poverty, impossible expectations domestic abuse, lack of bodily autonomy, burnout, and shame.Above all, their lack of choice and true agency kept them trapped in unhealthy marriages

She grew up in the same city as me which I fled the minute I had my college degree. I too was raised extremely religious community but nowhere near as bad as what she's describing.

My parents are actually really liberal hippies who love Jesus but because my mom was raised in the denomination they've stayed in it though as of late have really questioned why.

My mom always told me she stayed to create change from within but she's 77 and hasn't seen it. What's really pushed them more recently is the hatred they get for supporting me and my wife.
