Many people will never know the joy of penny candy at the local mom&pop stores. Where you picked out exactly what you wanted and a dime seemed to translate into a lot of your favorite.

In a brown paper bag that always ended up crumpled beyond belief.

OMG yes. Shuffed in your pocket, or just grabbed and carried. Those little paper bags were candy work horses😅

We used to go down to the corner store and get penny candy & bottles of Pepsi for 5 cents. This was in the 60s when I was a kid. It was a big treat to do that!

I remember pepsi/coke being 12 cents for the 12 ounces and 16 cents for the 16 ounces and of course the bottles were worth two cents when you returned them. The patience of a store owner on penny candy was incredible.
