It took me a long time to figure out, as a white cishet man, that being nice to me doesn't prove someone is a nice person. It's rare that someone isn't nice to me. But this is something I had to learn. Before I got it, I didn't get it.

Exactly! My caucastic hubster insists on being friendly w/ neighbors like this. I told him, I absolutely cannot befriend anyone who votes for my/ my kiddo’s extinction…period. Not happening. Don’t give a 🤬 how “nice” they seem. “Nice” folks used to lynch Black folks, after church services. So no.

Whoo…that’s deep! 👏🏽 Thanks for saying this. I keep telling my white allies that accepting these folks IS accepting their beliefs. It’s not about politics. People aren’t politics. It’s white grievances, veiled as “political differences”. It’s ‘24 & they’re still debating who has a right to exist.

Yes. The way I frame it is that if I disagree with someone over what policy will be best for everyone, that's a political disagreement. If we don't agree that everyone's well-being is important, that's values, not politics.

🎯 We’re literally watching folks go from having “economic anxiety” 🙄 to trashing affordable healthcare, Social Security and education.
