As the grandchild of a survivor of Bergen Belsen, though not Jewish, schooled in the stories first hand, when he was willing to share, I wish I could say I was stunned by the number of friends, who are now not.

The Generation that experienced WWII is almost gone and with them, the urgency of the fight against Fascism around the world. It's why authoritarianism is slowly creeping back into countries around the world, as the need to fight it dims with the loss of those memories.

This is unfortunate and true. And a western generation so far removed from war, that they don't grasp the concept of what it is, what it would do.

I talk about this all the time with my kids. They don't always understand completely, but if I don't talk, they won't understand at all.
