new government announced a plan to increase the birth rate by giving money to moms for every child starting with $300 for first and increasing

the reason people don't have children is 30 000 - 60 000 people leave the country every year

+ medical system & schools being in shambles

$300 seems like a tiny amount compared with the cost of a child - basically a party favor. At least they are giving it to moms. South Korea gives a reward to DADS.

The money will go a bit farther here. Along with the care packages with diapers, bottles etc. it helps parents get some things they need but it totally doesn't address why people are not having kids in the first place.

I had NO idea SK gives the money to dads. 🤦🏻‍♀️

I’m trying to remember where I saw the info about SK. Probably in the Korea Herald. Most articles say the stipend is paid to “parents”. A few specify married couples only. The payment going to men is probably overlooked as part of bureaucracy.
