If the US sent troops to Ukraine, there would probably be a nuclear war resulting in the death of the majority of humanity. That would not help Ukraine.

When did we forget the Cold War, and start kidding ourselves that we could have a limited war with Russia?

Arm Ukraine, but keep US troops out.

The position isn't sending troops to Ukraine, it's what Macron said: "I'm not ruling anything out, because we are facing someone who is not ruling anything out,".
"We have undoubtedly been too hesitant by defining the limits of our action to someone who no longer has any and who is the aggressor,"
