Anyone interested in doing a temp writing prompt? Looks like our writing and poetry prompt friends are MIA. 😔

Early 70s brown station wagon headed from WI to VA. Navy Dad had new orders. State Trooper standing on side of interstate pointing at motorists to pull over. Speed trap. Caught my Dad. Taken away with others to pay the fine. Trooper gave my sister and I gum while we waited with our Mom.

Mom, Dad, little bro' made a trip mid-spring from SW Ohio to south central NM, 40 years ago. They stopped for gas in Shamrock, TX on the last leg of the trip. An hour after they headed on down our way, two tornadoes crossed the highway near the gas station. They didn't know until they got in.

Christmas, below 0. Going to Arkansas. I'm stretched in the back window because I can take the curves, sis in the back seat closest to the bucket because she can't. Mom in the front. Everyone goes to sleep. Driver too. The rest of the trip we took turns out the window trying to arrive with the trim.

..It would be another family gathering where father dear would drink himself into oblivion. Then he would drive us home on the busy freeways of inner city Detroit…

Glad to be alive.

Ten states in four days. Pre-deployment relocation was a massive lift at the best of times, let alone switching coasts. Eyes were sandy, there wasn't enough coffee to make this bearable.

The dog's whining at being in the car had grated at first, now it was helping me stay awake to the end.

We took a road trip to Edmonton, with our baby daughter. Though it is not a long drive it is usual to stop the night somewhere. We wanted to save money so we rested in the van, but it was chilly. We had our daughter in between us and because she was such a furnace we stayed quite warm.

We drove up to my brothers place from sea level to the mountains we would cross the bay the water close below.
Our ears would pop as we went up. We wanted to see if we could find out if the paw prints in the damp mud were a bobcat or mountain lion.
