More to the point, he's got no other way out. He pulls any further stunts, he's delaying the inevitable at the cost of way too many lives. Enough of those have been wasted.

Goes without saying. But like Hamas and TFG and all other villains, he clearly doesn't give a single rat's ass about human life. But he knows he's already loathed by voters and barely won his last election, and he really can't afford to lose any more support at home. Hope so, anyway.

Pretty sure he's hanging by a thread with way too many of the Israeli people. National unity didn't happen, he's had to withdraw forces and Hamas was the first to say yes to the ceasefire. Put it all together and it's not looking good for him.

So if he accepts the treaty or is forced to resign, it's a win either way.

Indeed...as escape plans from jail go, this has been an unmitigated disaster.

But as far as severely reducing the numbers of an inconvenient neighbor goes, it's been quite a bit more successful.

Sure and if it'd stayed within that scope, I doubt too many would still care (they should in all cases, but too many don't). But hitting the Iran embassy in Syria? THAT one is the costly mistake that made Netanyahu pretty much a failure of a dictator.

Yeah, because genocide wasn't enough.

A LOT of this is straight from W's 9/11 playbook, using the excuse of a terrorist attack to fulfill long-term ambitions that couldn't get done otherwise.

Attacking Iran perfectly fits that framework. So does annihilation of Palestinians.

Oh, I caught living hell online during the BushCo years.
UnAmerican might be the most polite insult piled on.
NOT a fan of the Bush Doctrine.

Pearl Harbor could be described as Japan merely protecting their Pacific interests with a preemptive strike.

Wrong is wrong.

Never was a fan of that doctrine either because I knew it'd end in tears.

The day after Election Day 2004, I wrote this on a Post-It at my work with Election Day's date: "Congratulations, citizens. You just volunteered for hell."
