Dad would tell tales of the Wampus Cat instead of the Boogie Man when I was a child. He was born in Arkansas in 1932. In the early 1900s Wampus Cat was an epithet for a local ne'er do well in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Did y'all hear folklore tales in your neck of the woods?

In rural North Florida it was the Wooly Booger. There's an actual caterpillar and a fishing lure called a Wooly Booger. But the one meant to give the youngin's nightmares was basically a Bigfoot swamp creature type thing. 🌝💙

We have those caterpillars but didn't know about it being a swamp thing! Thanks for the tidbit Li!
