Real ID requires the same documentation as NJMVC for a driver's license. So, why aren't all NJ DL's automatically Real ID?

In Ohio, I needed my social security card but also, it cost more for that gold star, at least in Illinois.

We moved and I had to tear apart boxes looking for my SS card to get my license, which I needed to renew expiring car tags.

We already have to provide those 6 points of ID for a DL and have had to for years. Yes, they charge $11 more for a license with a star on it. There's no other damn difference.

It's mostly the extra money. Are we to believe that we're given a more in-depth background check?

To have a US Passport, a SSN was provided. That didn't work. I had that available along with the passport card as I renewed during Covid. Didn't want to mess with the DMV at that time, renewed online.

Haven't been in an MVC office in years. Registration and license get renewed online. The car has to brought for inspection but that's every 2 years.

My Ohio DL is 8 years, so I have 6 left. I can now do the car registration on-line. I hope I can select my years when I do that. In person, you can choose how many years you renew so if you're not tight on money. One car renews this year, the other one, 2 more years.
