I celebrate all my birthdays and tell everyone my age -- because I'm still here!

When I was 20 and newly diagnosed with Addison's, I mistakenly believed I'd die around age 40. When I didn't, and found out I'd have a normal lifespan, it was like getting a brand new life.

Some people don't like celebrating birthdays because they're getting older.

I see it differently.

Scientifically, the odds against any of us existing are staggering.

So don't think of it as getting older. Think of it as defying the impossible for one more year.

THAT is something to celebrate.
