To be clear, when I say "advice", he wants to know how to persuade mum to stay

This man really went online begging for advice cos his mum is finally leaving his dad after 35 years. The kicker is he's not even looking at the situation through the eyes of an adult child in denial at how his parents' relationship was. He openly admits his dad wasn't a good husband.

Just plain selfish. Women are expected to put their happiness last & some people genuinely don't see mothers as being their own person. Also, if the son says the dad wasn't a good husband, I suspect he's watering it down & was probably a lot worse.
