I agree with you, but we need to plan for the ‘plan’ we rely on crashing. Save like half of your investments will fail.

IMO we should be able to rely on social security for a minimum survival income if needed. And it should adequately cover housing costs and medical care. Not everyone owns a home on retirement

Hardly anyone in this country has that kind of financial privilege

Americans even in barely middle class circumstances live in places where we never see how the majority live, what they deal with, how little they have to work with in old age & failing health & what possibly awaits us...

My husband and I had a plan.
SS, savings, income and investments.
Now in our late 70’s two recessions, illnesses, COVID’s affect on the economy have made us dependent on social security.
Dignity and necessity coverage is not too much to ask:

I feel like you just told my story. I now have a dementia husb. Have a decent paying job, can collect soc sec in Oct to pay for his caregiver so he can stay home. Hanging on by a thread til oct.if I lose this job which I love I will have to find two or more to keep afloat not easy at my age.
