My awesome kids took me to Texas Roadhouse for Mother's Day dinner tonight. Absolutely delicious food, but why is it always so loud there?

Between the music and the simple fact of many conversations happening at tables around us, I was reduced to mostly lip reading.

Agree! Why do restaurants insist on blasting music so loud? Seems like all the casual dining eateries do it now and it is annoying AF.

I have no idea, but I hate it.

I think there's also something in the layout and materials used in a lot of places that seem to amplify sound rather than absorbing it. To my ears, it felt like the noise was bouncing off the walls and ceiling like waves on a pond, coming from everywhere at once.

Exactly! I was thinking it was me and maybe I should have my ears checked. So thank you for the validation.

I would get your hearing checked just in case. I have 60% hearing loss in my left ear and 40% in the right and this does affect how/where my brain interprets sound coming from, especially in noisy environments.
