I need to try them again, and cook them in a different way. But to me fiddleheads just taste like grass...

So you eat them. Interesting. I never thought of eating ferns but I can see how they’d taste like grass. They kind of look like a green bean crossed with a grassy plant:

Pretty good description. Although apart from the texture, even the stems taste more like grass than beans... but people think of them as a delicacy. I probably just haven't had them prepared correctly.

Maybe… or people are just eating grassy ferns. 😂
I’d never heard of this before so now I’m very curious. Is it a regional thing?

Actually, yes! I always associated them with northern New England, & it turns out that's where they were traditionally harvested & eaten, originally by indigenous folks. Also in Quebec and the Atlantic Provinces in CA.

Okay, that makes sense. It sounded like something regional (the name, plant, etc.). Very cool.
