Here's an interesting quote from an article on Book Riot - "Why Are Dystopian Books So White?":

"So while white audiences gravitate toward dystopias in times of turmoil, people of color are living through nonstop dystopias. People of color are arrested and incarcerated at disproportionate rates.

Which is why Indigenous and Black dystopia novels and media tend to be "been there done that but at least this time it is the enemy's society collapsing"

Exactly.

And it's got me thinking - what does a dystopia look like when fascism isn't the ultimate fear but an everyday circumstance?

I'm not a fan of dystopic fiction, but now I want to find some written by BBIMP authors so I can see it through their eyes.

Actually, I've just started N.K. Jemisin's "The Fifth Season," which has a post-apocalyptic setting. So I guess I'm about to find out. 😊
