Hey all. As some of you have noticed, I’ve been suspended for the last 2 weeks. It’s given me a chance to get some perspective. I don’t plan to dwell on what folks here call “drama” going forward—I’ll be returning to silly goose antics as always—but did want to be transparent about some things.

Some use of advanced search suggests that some of you wondered why I was suspended. It was the post I linked below and a follow-up question. I don’t fully understand why that warranted a two week suspension, but I hope knowing helps folks stay within the rules. https://spoutible.com/thread/30953486

I also have caught up a bit on the last couple of days of “drama.” I don’t love that word because it implies that people complaining is a problem and encourages people not to look into why. I think the why matters a lot sometimes, and merely blocking and moving on isn’t always adequate.

Why not? Well, because when people are affirmatively trying to build sentiment against you, not knowing about it isn’t a very satisfying solution. And because posts here are viewable without logging in unless you take your profile private, it’s easy for harassers to circumvent blocks.

Nevertheless, the policy is now quite clear that reporting, blocking, and ignoring are the tools available. Taking your profile private helps as well, since it makes it harder for folks you’ve blocked to stalk you. And it’s helpful to have that clarity.

As folks have mentioned, there are a few toxic folks that have been at the center of “the drama” for a long time. Those same folks are now implying that the folks who have been suspended for causing drama or have chosen to leave did so because they want to undermine Spoutible.

That has not been my personal experience, and I don’t think it’s true for most who have chosen to split their time between Spoutible and other places. I also don’t think the reason well-liked folks have left was because of “drama” as often as it was because they didn’t feel safe.

So going forward, I will respect the rules and stick to the positive, but I will also be alert to harassment and will call it out. I encourage you to read critically so that you see it when it happens and do the same. I won’t be posting again on this topic. My DMs are open if anything was unclear.
