Let's Talk About - CRISPR. If this saves lives of patients & allows them to be fully functional citizens then it's a no brainer. The cost of the treatment is far less than the opportunity costs of not being treated plus the ongoing pain management.

Good article. Now I have questions, like - I wonder why the treatment costs millions of dollars. And what was the role of the bioethicists? What were their concerns?

Pamela - I suspect costs are a result of the patients. Most sickle cell cases in the US are with Black folks.

It’s also more of a general question, why are medical costs so high? Some companies recently reduced insulin prices, but why was it so high in the first place? How are these things priced? Is it the R&D markup? cost of raw materials? few skilled people so their rates are high? That kind of thing.
