This is stunning. Netanyahu's backtracking on his power grab as officials threaten to resign or say they'll side with the courts, and Air Force reservists refuse to fly. This could be a model for resisting other autocrats.

Let's not forget #Israel 's corrupt conservative majority returned indicted felon #Netanyahu to power. #Bibi is as bigoted & hate-filled as #Trump , but far more ruthless, cunning, & anti-democratic.

Israel no longer deserves American support until they rid themselves of this cancer.

Whatever the govt thinks, its pretty clear that the Israeli people are done with his bullshit.

To put the Israeli protests in perspective, they've got about the same number of protesters as the height of Black Lives Matter-in a country with 1/35th the population.

If they stay mobilized, he's done

Here's hoping! The protests have been important to slow the corruption of Israeli democracy. The dark shadow over all of this, however, is that - as large as it is - the population of protesters is smaller than the population that keeps electing right wing to #Knesset & keeps #Netanyahu in power.

We'll see when the next Israeli election rolls around, but the people who actively take to the streets in protest are likely always a smaller percentage of the total population. Actively campaigning in the streets requires more commitment, energy, and nerve than just showing up to vote.
