When we hiked AT in 2011 we were impressed by the patriotism we saw in Americans Today seeing my timeline and compass feeds flooded with praise for Joe Bidens SOTUS has reminded me yet again of that patriotism. We, in Australia, rarely exhibit that level of patriotism. I wonder why that is

Because it’s uncomfortable. Post-colonial mindset, we are not a super power and we’re dependent on the USA to defend us eg France and the submarines.

It’s complex and patriotism is a double edged sword.

That is true. We have the ANZAC spirit but I've seen that fade in the last decade I don't believe, as Aussies we have found our sense of 'who we are' yet, whether shrugging off the monarchy and becoming a Republic might finally give us a sense of patriotism , ownership in our country

Yes #AustralianRepublicNow

They said #Gallipoli forged the Federation together. But that was for an imperialist cause.

This time, we need to forge our own destiny without the Windsors as the remnant of that colonialist past.

Becoming a Republic will mean we have finally grown up and cut the apron strings the young people need a Republic, they have no cords holding them to UK like the older generation
