3/ This all happened within a 18 month window where crack simply showed up. The response from the city, state and feds was a rash of brutal enforcement, and constant harassment of black citizens.
Not surprised in the least that SJ's top cop was involved in dealing.

2/ Knowing the CIA's tolerance for human rights abuses, they at the very least tolerated weapons and drug trafficking, or turned a blind eye to it with the Contras. Seeing Oakland neighborhoods go from solid working class neighborhoods to devastated places where people were addicted was a nightmare.

1/ Omar, thanks for posting this article. I grew up on the San Francisco Bay Area in the 1980's, I remember crack showing up almost overnight in the mid 80's, especially in Oakland CA.
