We're tracking a new wave of "fleeceware" -- apps that are intended to attract users with free downloads, and then convince/coerce them to assent to a free trial--which turns into a recurring subscription of hundreds of dollars a year if they don't properly cancel the trial. These focus on ChatGPT.

For starters, people should learn to never believe anything ChatGPT says. 😉

We've found a number of mobile apps on Play and Apple App Store that present as being free AI Chat apps, then severely limit functionality and bombard with ads unless the user signs up for a three day trial. After they do, if they don't cancel, they get hit with sub fees of up to $9 a week.

You may see ads for these in social media apps or on websites. I've seen several on TikTok. If you spot any, let me know.
