Mifepristone is not JUST an abortifacient: it also treats Cushing's disease. Specifically, it treats Cushings disease for patients who also have type 2 diabetes or a glucose intolerance, and is one of the last ditch efforts to control Cushing's for these patients.

Cushing's disease is the result of high levels of cortisol, often called the "stress hormone", and increases glucose in the blood. The main cause of Cushing's is the use of glucocorticoid medications to control inflammation, but also long lasting symptoms of autoimmune disease and cancer.

Treatment for cushing's involves surgery and/or radiation, but if that is ineffective, then medication is prescribed to counteract the symptoms. A drug primarily used for type 2 diabetic patients is an antiglucorticoid: mifepristone.
