I'm really tired of people's magical thinking being used to pass laws & them being surprised when magical outcomes don't happen. I know we're living in the era of stupid but for goodness sake, can we PLEASE stop treating magical thinking like reasonable political talking points?

Example:

Magical Thinking: We're going to outlaw all abortion! Women won't be hurt, so long as they're not intentionally ending a healthy pregnancy.

Non-Magical Outcome: What do you mean women are bleeding out & nearly dying from sepsis bc we outlawed abortion meds/procedures?

Example:

Magical Thinking: Guns for everyone! More guns means more good guys w guns, means no more "gun free zones" that make people sitting ducks. Everyone armed means no one shoots!

Non-Magical Outcome: What do you mean gun deaths, injuries, suicides, accidents are going up?

Example:
Magical Thinking: Talking about racism, anti-Semitism, sexism, homophobia in our country's history only makes people feel bad about old issues they had no control over.
Non-Magical Outcome: What do you mean hate crimes are at an all time high? That stuff's in the past!

Example:

Magical Thinking: If we ignore/downplay/mock/intentionally sabotage efforts to curtail a highly infectious virus, there won't be any consequences.

Non-Magical Outcome: What do you mean millions died who didn't have to? What do you mean nurses & MDs are mass quitting?
