Except a salad with good ripe tomatoes *and* stone fruit is glorious! The savory tang of the tomatoes and the sweet tang of the plums/nectarines/peaches each intensify the other. (Best in late summer, but even with supermarket cherry tomatoes and splash of balsamic in the winter, it's great.

It is! The combination works as part of a green salad (especially with spinach and/or arugula) or in panzanella. (For those not familiar, cube & toast french bread or challah, mix with tomatoes & stone fruit, salt, oil, let juices soften the bread. Add cheese or salami for a main dish.)

Don't forget the herbs -- couldn't fit them in one spout. Basil and garlic are the classics in panzanella, but whatever you like will probably be fine. Also olives (green or black), red onion, bell peppers -- go nuts! (Also nuts -- pistachios work well with Italian flavors.)
