BREAKING: #SenDianne Feinstein hast told #ChuckSchumer to "temporarily" replace her with another #Democrat on the #JudiciaryCommittee until she recovers from her medical situation.

If anything happens to her, we'll have another #rgb situation on our hands.

Do something #Democrats .

I’m pretty sure that, except for the Supreme Court, judges, once out of committee, are approved with a simple majority. The Dems hold the majority in both the Judiciary Committee and the Senate.

Dems = 11 Judiciary Comm members, Reps = 10.

Feinstein's absence means a possible tie vote (10-10) which means full Senate has to vote to discharge the candidate out of committee (not a safe bet, esp w her out).

Plus, her absence delays other judiciary nominees moving forward in committee.

But doesn't appointing a temporary member diminish that concern?

Yes, absolutely - for the Judiciary Committee. But she also sits on the Select Committee on Intelligence (8D-7R); the Committee on Appropriations; and the Committee on Rules and Admin (D8-R7). And then there are all the other votes on legislation, etc.

Yes, there’s all that. She really does need to resign. Hopefully Newsome would be able to appoint someone. I’m concerned about all that good people who will run for the open seat. Don’t know if that’s positive or negative with Lee, Schiff, Porter competing against each other.
