My understanding of the MO AG's emergency rule on trans health care (disclaimer: I am not a lawyer, doctor, or policy expert, just someone who tries to follow along) 🧵

If nothing happens to stop this rule (and lawsuits are being filed as I write), it will be into effect on April 27 and expire Feb. 6, 2024 3/

The rule applies to all ages. While minors are mentioned in various sections, the document itself has no age provisions. 4/

This is not a blanket ban. To be clear: this is absolutely egregious, but those receiving care right now are not being detransitioned. 5/

A large chunk of the rule is a list of things that care providers will be required to tell patients. Many of those things are distortions, partial truths, info without context, or absolute nonsense 6/

Those currently on HRT will be able to refill prescriptions, but will be required to start having the assessments that the rule outlines. 7/

This rule puts all kinds of barriers up for care. It calls for at least 18 months of therapy, the resolution of any mental health issues, an assessment for autism, an assessment for social media addiction, and an assessment that the patient is not facing social contagion 8/

Anti-trans talking points this year have focused on people not being trans, but being autistic, seeming to incorrectly imply that 1) you can't be both and 2) that being autistic makes you more likely to be susceptible to so-called "social contagion" (have they met ND people?) 9/
