The first 1GB hard drive was launched in 1980, weighed approximately 550 pounds, and cost $40,000.

The first portable computer, the Osborne 1, was produced in 1981. It weighed 24 pounds and cost $1,795. Portable’ meant something else then. The first ‘portable’ sewing machine weighed 28 pounds.

My girlfriend's dad in the 80s had a "portable" phone. The main bit was in a satchel/suitcase.

Just got my moms bernina sewing machine serviced- pretty sure it still weighs 28 pounds 😂🤣. At 84 she can barely lift it.

In our University Extension office, we often got the suitcase computer and the portable sewing machine mixed up when we went out to do classes. Imagine a group of farmers waiting to see the latest ag report and the computer turns out to be a Singer!
