This book taught so many of us what it was like for Anne. Dates and battles are historical, but how an individual copes brings history alive.

I can't help thinking about the fact that by the time I reached 7th grade I had already read The Diary of Anne Frank and Farewell to Manzinar for school, as well as Roots just because I wanted to. Why won't they let children learn? Wtf are they "conserving"?

They are only conserving an outmoded way of thinking. They would love to go back about 100 years, hence why we are seeing banning books, banning women's rights to bodily autonomy, and not wanting real history taught. They would welcome being able to own people again.
