Students said they were told by admin that their Black History program could not include anything before 1970.

See what they did there. That's really sly of them; only allowing it to start at 1970 - the year when all the racism stopped.......

Yikes! I was born there 🫤 So glad my mom brought us kids out to California otherwise in the 50s n 60s I would have had an entirely different life experience!!

Alabama is known for its Southern hospitality, its history of civil rights struggles, and as the birthplace of the Civil Rights Movement… at least that is what comes up if you goggle, what is Alabama know for 🙄

I went to HS in MS in the ‘80’s and was never taught about Emmett Till, the Freedom Summer murders, the murder of Medgar Evers, the KKK (even though the haters in hoods walked the streets there). Pretty much nothing about racism or Black History in the South. AL & MS: DO BETTER.

Sure does! Though since the 70s the police brutality/arrests and justice system statistics (among many other studies conducted since then) still paint a horrifying picture.

They're absolutely right to walk out, even history as it's being made needs the context of the past for the whole picture.
