Here in Los Angeles a lot of people are going to artificial turf rather than grass. Also I see more planting of cactus and use of rock to make an artful front yard. It's really good to see and it's much more eco-friendly.

Here in Central Texas more and more people are xeriscaping their yards. Unfortunately, many homeowners are in HOAs, and those HOAs insist on green yards, i.e. grass that can't thrive in this environment without LOTS of watering.

While HOAs can have some advantages, they are ususally just the worst, and this is one example of why. Ugh.
