Ok hot take - don't crucify me, but:

WHY do ppl need "verification"? I'm honestly asking. Unless you are a celebrity or someone famous to be targeted for impersonation, why the fuck do regular folk need verification?

to me it's simply a status symbol, nothing more. It comes off petty AF.

For people whose name is their brand - like artists or craftspeople or writers who aren't well known (yet) or independent journalists without a large following or scientists or academics...etc. For most, though, it seems more like the Elmo fan club.

I kind of get that. Personally I would have a professional account and a personal account because I was raised to keep the two separate. The way the internet is today, the volatility, I would never put my name in association with my business. Trolls are real and annoying af.
