What passes for popular Christianity is steadily driving real Christians out of church. This is not good for society. Something will, inevitably, fill that void.

Is it bad? I've seen more people who have walked away from the church who are more kind to those around them than the ones that attend church on the regular.
Could the realization that we can be good without fearing punishment if we aren't be what vaults society forward; not backward?

Real Christians aren't of the "I've got to be good for fear of hellfire" sort. They believe in treating others with love and respect. Of course, many non-religous people do as well. Evangelicals have convinced a lot of folks that Christianity is their version which emphasizes hate instead.

Oh absolutely Evangelicals have ruined the good name of Christianity. I don't believe that religion will ever truly fade out as a whole. There has to be a reformation of religion, and I do believe that those good Christians will lead the way in that effort.
