When it comes to lifestyle or “self-help” books I’m very much of the opinion that you should take what advice works for you and leave the rest. No book is going to be 100% applicable to you- that doesn’t mean it’s a failure.

Maybe 60% of a particular book is suitable for my situation that’s still 60% of worthwhile advice I didn’t have when I first opened the book.

For example, all the people who didn’t care for the portion of Marie Kondo’s advice such as greeting the home that was rooted in Shinto belief systems.

Okay, if that doesn’t jive with your personal philosophy, that’s fine, you can leave it. Doesn’t mean you should go to disparage the rest of the book which has lots of practical advice that might help you.

That’s the way I see it anyway. Take what is helpful, leave the rest.
